Seasonal Flu Shots in Bridgeport, CT

Flu season in the United States can begin as early as October and last all the way through May, making it extremely important for you and your family to get your seasonal flu vaccinations. By taking the appropriate precautions, contracting the flu can be completely avoidable.
According to www.Flu.gov, the flu vaccination takes about two weeks for antibodies to develop within the body which then provides protection against the influenza virus infection. One common myth behind the flu vaccine is that you can contract the flu, which is false. The vaccination contains inactivated flu viruses strands that cannot cause the flu.
When you decide to receive the flu vaccination, it is important to be sure that you are healthy and symptom free. It is best to receive the flu shot early in the fall, to be prepared once the flu season gets underway.
Here at AFC Bridgeport, we care most about you and your family’s health. We provide flu vaccinations, as well as other healthcare needs, and are open for weekend and night hours.
By receiving a seasonal flu vaccination, you are not only protecting yourself against the flu, but also decreasing your risk of passing it off to others. Please be aware that it is important for you to be vaccinated every season. This is due to the fact that the strain of virus is constantly changing, making last year’s shot ineffective.
For children over the age of 2 years old, the FluMist is available at AFC. FluMist is the brand name of the flu vaccine that’s given in a nasal spray (no needles are involved). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that while the flu shot and the nasal spray vaccine both protect against the flu, there is evidence that the nasal spray vaccine may work better in younger children than a regular flu shot. The CDC now recommends the nasal spray vaccine for healthy children when it is available.
