New Year’s resolutions are a tradition that many people follow, but did you know that nearly 70% of people abandon those goals by February? It’s easy to get discouraged when you’re attempting to lead a healthier lifestyle, but there are some thing you can do to stay motivated and make your goals achievable!
One reason people give up on their goals is because they feel like they’ll never achieve them. To avoid this, set realistic goals for yourself. Instead of saying you’re going to lose a specific amount of weight this year, just say you’re going to enjoy more whole foods, lean proteins, and less junk food. Set goals that allow you to still live your life, even if that means going out to dinner with friends once in a while!
Drink Plenty of Water
Water is the key to any health goal. If you’re trying to lose weight, lower your blood pressure, or even get clear skin, water can help! The general rule of thumb to follow is that if you feel thirsty, you’re already dehydrated. Encourage your new healthy water habit by kicking off the new year with a reusable water bottle that you love. Take the water bottle with you everywhere you go and as soon as it’s empty, fill it back up.
Try Indoor Exercise
The cold weather makes an easy excuse to live a sedentary lifestyle, but it isn’t a good excuse! Instead of waiting for warmer weather, try adapting to the space that you have. There are plenty of indoor exercises you can try in your own home and at other places. Look for a group dance class, yoga, or even just find an indoor workout to do at home by yourself. Indoor exercise is a great change of pace which will help avoid boredom as the weather gets warmer too.
Don’t Forget to Eat
When you’re trying to lose weight, it’s easy to think skipping meals is the answer, but it definitely isn’t. Instead of depriving yourself and going through the day tired and hungry, try to eat small, healthy snacks throughout the day. Finding healthy snacks that you can take on-the-go makes it easy to avoid unhealthy temptations too! If you find yourself struggling to remember meal and snack times, set a reminder on your phone for different times of the day.
