AFC Urgent Care in Bridgeport has a board-certified USCIS Designated Civil Surgeon on staff on specific days within the month that is able to perform required immigration exams in accordance with the Department of Homeland Security and the US Citizens and Immigration Services (formerly INS). Immigration medical exams are required for all individuals applying for citizenship, Permanent Residency, or a green card before approval of their application. Only USCIS Designated Civil Surgeons can perform these exams for them to be valid.

Most of the requirements for the immigration exam include:

  • PPD
  • Chest X-Ray (if PPD is positive in 48-72 hours)
  • Tdap
  • Polio
  • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella
  • Rotavirus
  • Hib
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • Meningococcal
  • Varicella
  • Pneumococcal
  • Influenza
  • Syphilis Test

Do I need all of these vaccines? You may not require all of these. The requirements differ by your age. Patients are encouraged to call us prior to coming in for their examination so they know what they need to receive.

What do I need to bring when getting an immigration physical? Please bring a recent photo ID (including, but not limited to a passport, driver’s license, a state identification card). We recommend that you bring any immunization records you have or any blood work proving you have been vaccinated or exposed to the viruses. If you do not have any records with you but are certain that you have had these vaccinations or have been exposed to these diseases before, we are more than happy to perform the necessary blood work to prove that you have.

Do I need to make an appointment? Absolutely not, but you would need to call the office to confirm which day this service is available at the center. We advise you to plan accordingly because after you come in and have received the PPD, you must come back within 48-72 hours to have it read by one of the nurses. Failure to do so would result in having to receive another PPD.
